Position Summary:

Tonka Capital Partners, LLC (“TCP”) is a credit-oriented alternative asset manager focused on investments with physical assets and/or defensible competitive positions in out-of-favor industries. Through our experience and research-driven analysis, we seek to invest throughout the capital structure in situations that we believe are undervalued, including debt and equity securities of public and private companies.

TCP utilizes a disciplined investment strategy and approach developed over 18 years of experience investing in stressed and distressed companies and special situations. These types of investments require significant upfront credit research, valuation analysis, due diligence and exceptional capital structure knowledge and experience in addition to focusing on the ultimate exit and realization of the investment. TCP believes that this patient and fundamental approach to investing can be successfully applied to achieve compelling risk-adjusted returns throughout all economic cycles.

Tonka Capital Partners is seeking an Associate or Vice President to join our investment team. This individual will work on all stages of the investment process from idea generation and identification through a realization of the investment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a thorough financial, legal and industry analysis on individual investment opportunities for consideration and expressing an overall risk/reward profile
  • Detailed financial analysis including but not limited to historical financial performance, key drivers of the business, comparable valuations, predictive modeling and sensitivities, and recovery scenarios
  • Capital structure analysis assessing the risks and/or protections contained in credit agreements and indentures and structural positioning of an investment within a company
  • Ongoing monitoring of portfolio positions and communicating important updates to the team
  • Sourcing investment ideas for team’s consideration
  • Participating in portfolio reviews with investors

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of investment banking, capital markets or buy-side experience for the Associate level; 5-8 years of experience for Vice President level. Experience in Leveraged Finance, Restructuring, Financial Sponsors or M&A is preferable
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic willing to be accountable for the wide range of responsibilities that comes with the position
  • Ability to communicate investment ideas articulately and succinctly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interest in credit-oriented investments
  • Fluency in Excel is a must, knowledge or experience with Bloomberg is a plus
