Tonka Capital Partners, LLC focuses on investments with physical assets and/or defensible competitive positions in out-of-favor industries. Tonka Capital Partners, LLC focuses on investing in the secured and unsecured debt or equity of public and private companies, physical assets, real estate, or direct primary loans. In general, Tonka focuses on investments and situations that possess one or more of the following attributes:

MEET THE PARTNERS

Jay Kanive

Managing Partner

Mr. Kanive oversees all Tonka Clients’ investments and has managed the group since its founding in 2018. Prior to founding Tonka, Mr. Kanive was most recently a Principal and member of the investment team at Wayzata Investment Partners LLC since 2006. Prior to 2006, Mr. Kanive was a Vice President on the investment team at Resurgence Asset Management. From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Kanive was an investment banker in the high yield group at Jefferies & Company and prior thereto an investment banker in the global loans group at Salomon Smith Barney since 2000. Mr. Kanive graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Finance from Boston College.

Nick Treat

Partner & Chief Compliance Officer

Mr. Treat joined Tonka as a Partner and Chief Compliance Officer in 2018. Prior to joining Tonka, Mr. Treat was most recently a Principal and member of the investment team at Wayzata Investment Partners LLC since 2009. Mr. Treat received his B.S. with high distinction and a major in Finance from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
